Prayer (Salāh) is the Most Prescribed Act on Laylatul Qadr
As we approach the final nights of Ramadan, one of the greatest acts of worship we can engage in is prayer (Salāh). Laylatul Qadr, the Night of Decree, is a night filled with divine mercy and blessings, and the Prophet (ﷺ) emphasized the power of standing in prayer during this sacred night:
“Whoever spends the night of Laylat al-Qadr in prayer out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.”
(Al-Bukhari, 1901; Muslim, 759)
Why is Prayer So Important on Laylatul Qadr?
Laylatul Qadr is a night better than a thousand months (Qur’an 97:3), and prayer is the best way to seek closeness to Allah on this night. Through Tahajjud, Qiyam-ul-Layl, and extended recitation of the Qur’an in prayer, we immerse ourselves in the light of Allah’s guidance and mercy.
How to Make the Most of This Night in Prayer
✅ Perform long, sincere prayers (Qiyam-ul-Layl, Tahajjud, and extra nafl Salāh).
✅ Recite Qur’an in your prayer, reflecting deeply on its meanings.
✅ Make heartfelt du’a, especially this powerful supplication taught by the Prophet (ﷺ):
اللْهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
(O Allah, You are Pardoning, You love to pardon, so pardon me.) (Sunan al-Tirmidhī 3513)
✅ Seek forgiveness for past sins and renew your commitment to Allah.
A Night of Transformation
This may be our last opportunity to experience Laylatul Qadr. Let’s not waste it! Increase your prayer, remembrance, and devotion so that you may leave this Ramadan purified and closer to Allah.
May Allah grant us the ability to stand in prayer on Laylatul Qadr, accept our worship, and shower us with His mercy. Ameen.
