Virtues of Fasting 6 Days of Shawwal
Ramadan may be over, but the opportunity for immense rewards is not! The month of Shawwal brings another beautiful chance to gain Allah’s pleasure through fasting.
Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Whoever fasts Ramadan and follows it with six days of Shawwal, it will be as if he fasted for a lifetime.”
(Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, al-Nasai and Ibn Majah)
Why Fast the Six Days of Shawwal?
✅ A Reward Equal to a Lifetime of Fasting – Since one good deed is multiplied by ten, fasting 30 days of Ramadan + 6 days of Shawwal equals 360 days—a full year of fasting!
✅ A Sign of Acceptance – Completing these extra fasts shows gratitude for the ability to fast in Ramadan and is a sign that Allah accepted your efforts.
✅ Maintaining the Habit of Fasting – Fasting beyond Ramadan helps preserve the spiritual discipline and self-control developed throughout the month.
✅ A Source of Forgiveness and Barakah – The more you strive in voluntary acts, the more mercy and blessings Allah grants you.
Make the Intention Today!
These six fasts don’t have to be consecutive, so you can spread them out across the month of Shawwal. Take advantage of this easy yet powerful Sunnah and reap the rewards of fasting for a lifetime!
May Allah grant us the ability to fast these blessed days and accept our efforts. Ameen!
